Working on a story about IT certification training, education-first SaaS, or solo-founder bootstrapping? The basics are here. Email below if you need more.

The pitch

Revy's Tech Journey is gamified CompTIA cert training that teaches the exam and the job at the same time.

Story-driven helpdesk scenarios, spaced-repetition flashcards, a Help Desk Simulator with branching tickets, and full-length practice exams that produce a Readiness Score. Built by a working IT manager and former CTE teacher. Bootstrapped. No outside investors. A+, Network+, Security+ at launch.

Founder

Nicholas Miller. IT Service Center Manager at a large non-profit. Former high-school CTE and IT teacher (2.5 years). Owner of Revtek IT Solutions, a managed IT services company in Chicago's south suburbs.

Parent company

Revtek IT Solutions LLC. Independently owned. South-suburban Chicago. Focus: managed IT services, cybersecurity, education-first community work.

Stage

Pre-launch. First pilots starting now. Platform in active development. Trinity content (A+, Net+, Sec+) ships before public launch.

Backed by

Self-funded. No VC, no angel investors, no incubator. Built nights and weekends around a full-time job.

Notable

Free tier is real, not a trial. Practice exam included monthly even on free. No drip-marketing email sequences. AI Policy is public and specific.

Story angles

Useful framings if you are writing about this

  • 01Solo-founder bootstrapped product built around a full-time job. No funding, no team.
  • 02Education-first MSP that turned a side-project teaching habit into a public learning platform.
  • 03CompTIA's stance on AI-generated content and how a small builder stays inside that line (see /ai-policy).
  • 04The Readiness Score concept: a study-only benchmark that tells learners when to actually book the real exam.
  • 05Help Desk Simulator: why most cert prep stops at the test and what changes when you simulate the actual job.
