Configure a VLAN on a switch

Create VLAN 10, name it Sales, assign GigabitEthernet1/0/10 as an access port in that VLAN, and save the configuration so the change persists. This page teaches a job procedure. These are not exam questions, nothing here comes from any exam, this is not PBQ practice, and this is not a score predictor.

Steps

  1. 1

Create the VLAN first so the port lands in the VLAN you intend: enable, then configure terminal, then vlan 10.

  2. 2

Name VLAN 10 so its purpose is clear in the VLAN table: name Sales.

  3. 3

Leave VLAN configuration and set the workstation's port to access mode: exit, then interface GigabitEthernet1/0/10, then switchport mode access.

  4. 4

Assign the access port to VLAN 10 so the workstation sits in the Sales broadcast domain: switchport access vlan 10.

  5. 5

Leave configuration mode and save so the change survives a reload: end, then write memory (or copy running-config startup-config).

  6. 6

Confirm VLAN 10 is named Sales and GigabitEthernet1/0/10 is a member: show vlan brief.

What you should see

VLAN 10 is named Sales, GigabitEthernet1/0/10 is assigned to it as an access port, and the switch reports that the configuration was saved.
