Create a DHCP scope, range, and reservation and verify it

On a canned Windows DHCP server, create a scope for 192.0.2.0/255.255.255.0, add the distribution range 192.0.2.10 to 192.0.2.200, add a reservation binding 192.0.2.50 to the printer MAC 00-00-5E-00-53-01, then show the reservation to confirm it. A reservation must fall inside a defined range, so the range is added before the reservation. Showing the reservation confirms the server holds the binding; it does not prove the client has leased the address. Do not claim this canned DHCP server is a real machine. This page teaches a job procedure. These are not exam questions, this is not a score predictor, and nothing here is taken from any certification exam.

Steps

  1. 1

Run netsh dhcp server \\RTJ-DHCP01 add scope 192.0.2.0 255.255.255.0 "RTJ Office Scope". netsh prints Command completed successfully.

  2. 2

Run netsh dhcp server \\RTJ-DHCP01 scope 192.0.2.0 add iprange 192.0.2.10 192.0.2.200. The range includes the reserved .50 and leaves the gateway .1 out.

  3. 3

Run netsh dhcp server \\RTJ-DHCP01 scope 192.0.2.0 add reservedip 192.0.2.50 00005e005301 "RTJ Office Printer".

  4. 4

Run netsh dhcp server \\RTJ-DHCP01 scope 192.0.2.0 show reservedip. Confirm Reservation Address 192.0.2.50 and Unique ID 00-00-5e-00-53-01.

What you should see

show reservedip lists Reservation Address 192.0.2.50 and Unique ID 00-00-5e-00-53-01 in the 192.0.2.0 scope. This confirms the server binding only, not that the client has leased the address.
