Hands-on lab

Create a local user and add it to a group

Create a local user account from an elevated command prompt, add it to the specific local group the task requires, and verify the result on the Local Group Memberships line. When you create a real account, follow the organization's password policy; the password here is a lab placeholder. This page teaches a job procedure. These are not exam questions, this is not a score predictor, and nothing here is taken from any exam.

The steps on this page are free to read. The hands-on lab for this procedure is included with Academy.

Steps

  1. 1

Run net user jdoe Winter2026! /add to create the local account.

  2. 2

Run net localgroup "Remote Desktop Users" jdoe /add to grant the specific group membership.

  3. 3

Run net user jdoe and read the Local Group Memberships line to verify Remote Desktop Users is listed.

What you should see

Both /add commands complete successfully, and net user jdoe shows Remote Desktop Users on the Local Group Memberships line.
