Investigate switch interface errors and duplex

On a canned switch snapshot, read the interface error counters, identify Gi1/0/7 as the port with high CRC and input errors, then open its detail and record that it is half-duplex. Treat a duplex mismatch as suspected until the neighbor's configuration is checked. Do not use this snapshot to claim a cable fault or describe a real switch. This page teaches a job procedure. These are not exam questions, this is not a score predictor, and nothing here is taken from any certification exam.

Steps

  1. 1

Run show interfaces counters errors. Compare the ports and identify Gi1/0/7 as the interface with 4812 FCS errors and 4812 receive errors.

  2. 2

Run show interfaces gigabitethernet1/0/7, or the show interfaces gi1/0/7 abbreviation. Confirm 4812 input errors, 4812 CRC errors, and half-duplex at 100Mb/s, then record a suspected duplex mismatch to verify against the neighbor.

What you should see

Gi1/0/7 is the only listed port with non-zero FCS and receive errors. Its detail shows 4812 input errors, 4812 CRC errors, and half-duplex at 100Mb/s. This is a suspected duplex mismatch, not proof of the neighbor's setting or a cable verdict.
