Release and renew a DHCP lease
Recover a client with a stale or self-assigned address by releasing the current DHCP lease, renewing it, and confirming the new address and lease details. This page teaches a job procedure. These are not exam questions, this is not a score predictor, and nothing here is taken from any certification exam.
The steps on this page are free to read. The hands-on lab for this procedure is included with Academy.
Steps
- 1
Run ipconfig /release and confirm the Ethernet adapter no longer shows an IPv4 address.
- 2
Run ipconfig /renew and confirm the client receives the new 192.0.2.23 lease and gateway 192.0.2.1.
- 3
Run ipconfig /all and confirm IPv4 address 192.0.2.23, the gateway, DHCP Enabled as Yes, and the lease times.
What you should see
The release removes the IPv4 address, the renewal returns 192.0.2.23 with its gateway, and ipconfig /all shows DHCP Enabled as Yes with lease times.
